Local sources in Saidnaya report that members of the Christian community were harassed by General Security forces ahead of Easter (Resurrection Sunday)—despite the town’s well-known peaceful character and avoidance of conflict.
The incident, viewed by many as a deliberate attempt to stir unrest and provoke sectarian tensions, comes with no legal justification and raises serious concerns about the abuse of authority and violation of religious freedoms.
Such behavior constitutes a breach of international human rights law, particularly Article 18 of the ICCPR, which protects individuals from religious discrimination and intimidation.
